What To Wear For Your Family Photos
For months you have been saying that you need to make a appointment to get some updated family photos. There is sports schedules, homework, birthday parties, after school clubs, etc… and that is just your kids schedule. So finding the time for family photos can be a chore in itself. So now you have scheduled your family photos you can breath a sigh of relief because its done and then you realize that scheduling the appointment wasn’t actually the hard part. Because now you have to pick outfits for you entire family. Outfits that photograph well, ones that you like and most importantly ones that your kids like and everyone feels comfortable in. As a family photographer in Philadelphia for several years I know what really works when planning your families outfits.
1.Wear comfortable clothes, that you make you feel good . Do a trial run wear the outfits out to dinner one night see how they feel, if they feel uncomfortable it will show in pictures.
This pretty lady is a fashionta she loves dresses and matching headbands she felt so good in this outfit and it radiates through the pictures
2.Coordinate colors I recommend coordinating two-three muted solid colors with your family members. The photos will look much more visually appealing then if everyone decided to wear the exact same outfit. I have put together a Pinterest board of outfit ideas to give you some suggestions you can find that HERE!
What I love about this families outfits is the purple is worked into each person outfits so differently. Mom matched the girls purple dress with her scarf and dads collared shirt under his sweater.
3. Accessories can be used to add a pop of color or to match other family members outfits
I love how she matched her necklace and belt to her husbands shirt. They are matching and it is so subtle
Here is another great example of accessories adding some color. She wanted navy blue but loved the pink in her daughters dress so she added a cute headband to her daughter and she wore a necklace and it gave their outfits a small pop of color without over doing it.
4. Textures and layers can add some depth to your pictures without taking the attention away from your family
This beautiful momma has texture in her sweater but also added texture in her sons layered sweater as well. So she went with solid muted colors but added some depth dimension to her outfit with some texture and a layer. Then her handsome son’s sweater has some really great texture and then layered a sweater with a collared shirt gives his outfit depth.
