For as long as I can remember photography has always been so important to me even way before I had any idea that I wanted to be a photographer. Time goes by so quickly, documenting your family and your life is so important having the memories to go back and look at is such a treasure. I have been searching Philadelphia for a while now for charities that my family and I could donate family photography sessions to. I came across The Gold Hope Project and instantly feel in love with their message. They are a non profit organization that works with photographers to gift free family photos to families battling a pediatric cancer diagnoses. The families that are going through these diagnosis are going through so many things and gifting them with some time to hang out, take some pictures and just spend some time being a family and not worry about anything.
Jocelyn’s story began when she was just two years old when she had turned completely yellow (Jaundice) and that is when her mom knew that something was wrong and that is the moment that their life changed. This amazing family spent the next 12 months in a long hospital stay with Jocelyn fighting Pancreatic Blastoma. Over the last 17 years she has undegone a 12 hour whipple procedure, chemo, radiation, numerous surgeries and has had 4 relapses. She struggles on a daily basis but this amazing girl and her family face every struggle with a smile and as a solid united front.
On a beautiful warm summer evening my husband and I met Jocelyn and her amazing mother and went down to Fairmount Park in Philadelphia to take some beautiful photos. Jocelyn is really the definition of strength, this beautiful fighter has gone through so much and she refuses to let it slow her down or keep her from living every day with the biggest smile and laughing non stop. I had so much fun during our session it was like we had known each other for years. We chatted and laughed the entire time, the highlight of my evening was when we got the gold glitter out for jocelyn to blow for a fun picture. She could not contain her laughter she was laughing so hard, I don’t know how I was able to hold the camera still because I was laughing so hard as she attempted to blow the glitter in between laughing fits.
I have posted a few of my favorite images below it was so hard to narrow down to a few because I loved them all! How stylish is this beautiful girl a headband to match every outfit and a lemonade bandana to match her Alex’s Lemonade Stand Shirt. I am so grateful that I was chosen to be her families photographer they have become such a huge part of my life since our first meeting. At the bottom of the blog you can leave some love in the comment field for one of the bravest young ladies I know she would really love to read them. Jocelyn I am a better person for knowing you and you have changed my life so much in the short amount of time we have known each other <3.
